You’ve seen his work throughout Lincoln – chalkboards filled with vibrant imagery paired with clean type that adorn the menu boards of your favorite restaurants and bars. Daily specials depicted in a realistic fashion make you double take to assure yourself you aren’t seeing things. He is one of Lincoln’s most known unknown artists, and his name is Tom Meyers.
For the past 20 years, Tom has worked fulltime as an artist, bringing his pastel talents tableside; beckoning viewers to indulge in a cold beer or to spontaneously take a chance on exotic fare on their way home from work.
While studying psychology at UNO, Tom didn’t have much experience with art aside from some of his required courses. Discovering his knack for creating stunning artwork happened by chance while working at Grisantis. Watching curiously as a man walked into the restaurant to markup the menu board, Tom was intrigued that the restaurant was paying someone else to do it. He gave it a try, and the word spread quickly.
In fact, Tom’s only marketing vehicle has been word of mouth – a rarity in today’s chaotic flurry of technological noise, status updates, tweets and ‘likes’. The organic marketing route seems to be working out well for Tom, considering his art can be seen at:
The Watering Hole
Bagels & Joe
Jack & June
Tavern On The Square
The Other Room
High Society Cheesecake
Brix & Stone
Recently, Tom has decided to showcase his artwork at his first-ever art show, and is keen to have art lovers throughout Nebraska come.
Event details: Friday, June 6th at PLAY Creative located at 2124 ‘Y’ Street #131, Lincoln, NE 68503 at 4:30pm. Food and beverages will also be served.
